dressin' like the met gala pt. 1
INSIDE: the pants that are EVERYWHERE, so much Sezane love, and a Met Gala debrief
Congratulations, you made it to the end of Friday!!! Did anyone else feel like this week took every last molecule out of them??
On a much more fun note, we are THREE DAYS from the Met Gala, and I’ve got your guide ready to go below.
I am also trying something new on Instagram where I thrift based on one of my favorite influencers’ style or vibes. Let me know what you think!
Ok, now onto the good stuff…
Get Thrifty
1. Sezane Tote from Vestaire, $37
We are FINALLY getting a Sezane pop-up here in DC this weekend, and to celebrate, I have been absolutely stalking thrift sites to look at totes they sell at other locations around the world. As of right now, this green pennant pattern is the winner for me! (FLAG: it does need to be shipped internationally)
2. La Detresse Striped Mini Shorts, Size M from TheRealReal, $40
One day, there won’t be a cute pair of boxer shorts in the newsletter… but today is not that day lol
3. Women's White and Blue Artist-made Crop Top, Size S from Depop, $20
Ok, it took WILLPOWER for me not to buy this immediately lol! And be sure to check out groovymamaa on Depop to see all her other beautiful, hand-stamped pieces.
4. J.Crew Boxer Set, Size Medium from Curtsy, $55
Ok, this CRISP white boxer set from J.Crew is an absolute steal – if someone grabs it and wears it on a boat drinking some white wine, please DM because that’s my dream!
B.N.W.T.
1. The Arcade Slip Dress from Sovere, $37
So I’ve just discovered this gorgeous Australian brand Sovere… and they happen to be having a massive warehouse sale right now, including this incredible, butter-yellow slip dress!
2. The A&F Paloma Top from Abercrombie, $40
Abercrombie, of course, continues to slay with their weekly Thursday drops. You guys know that if it’s a top with a silhouette like this, I’m all in.
3. The Yasmin Lace Top from Omnes, $18
This was actually an incredibly exciting find for me: Omnes is a very cute British sustainable brand that I had never heard of! And of course, they are also having a huge Archive sale right now, which includes this adorable Y2K moment.
4. High Waist Bootcut Cropped Animal Print Jeans from Zara, $60
Now, I am not normally an animal print girlie… but I will say every single British person I follow on TikTok has been buying these Zara jeans. I can’t fully explain it, but for only $60, I trust them!!!
Spotlight ✨
It’s that time of the year, people… the Met Gala is THIS MONDAY, May 6th. And thankfully, Vogue will be live-streaming everything that happens on their site.
Now, I’ve been really trying to ruminate on this year’s theme, but first, let’s take a look back into past years. Please enjoy this very bare-bones chart I made (Anna Wintour would be pissed lol).
Two things have stood out to me over the past few years. First, the Met Gala used to just be a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute – but over the years, it has grown into perhaps the singular most watched and talked about fashion event of the year. Which means it’s become an opportunity for pretty much any and every celebrity to make headlines. To me, it reminds me a bit of the MTV Awards back in the 2010s: this is really just a stage where everyone is trying to excite, shock, and even scare the press and the public.
Second, it feels like these themes are skewing far more whimsical, playful abstract, and artistic over the years (except in 2023, when the focus was explicitly on honoring the late Karl Lagerfeld). I personally do believe this is because Anna Wintour took one look at Blake Lively’s incredible, whimsical, classical 2018 ensemble and decided she needed to give her more chances to do that. Not a joke!! And I also think the beautiful whimsy fits very well with the high-brow Met brand, and we’ll see much more of these themes to come.
But onto this Monday! The theme of this year’s Met Gala is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, and the dress code, which is apparently its own thing, is The Garden of Time. This is based on a short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, who is known for work that represents “dystopian modernity, bleak artificial landscapes, and the psychological effects of technological, social, or environmental developments.” I highly recommend this Vogue article that explains further, as well as following along with the fabulous culture reporter Kelsey Weekman.
We also know some of the pieces that will be featured in the Met exhibit that this ball marks the opening of. Here are the ones that stuck with me the most.
All in all, when it comes to my red carpet predictions, I think there will be a lot of dark, streampunk-y Cinderella energy, some big floral numbers with clocks involved somehow, and at least one fashion statement on AI (Jared Leto, I’m looking at you). I can’t wait! And yes, there will definitely be a Monday bonus newsletter coming so we can talk about it more because I want to know what y’all think!

In case you missed it, the one and only @databutmakeitfashion was featured in Elle Magazine this week! To celebrate, I am sharing her most jaw-dropping piece of content this week. To echo her, explain yourselves!!!
Other Corners of the Internet
And speaking of boat shoes… Staud dropped a whole collab with Keds that has boat shoe energy to me. How do we feel about this?? I gotta say, the price point is fab.
I can’t stop watching vintage prom dress videos like this on
‘s app!!If you aren’t already, PLEASE go follow the wonderful
over at – I learn something new (and usually buy something new lol) in every one of her posts. Also, for my DC girlies, one of my all-time FAVE influencers has started doing style and thrift content that I love – make sure you check out @clockoutdc!
I need to speak my truth… I went to the store to look at the new Crochet Uniqlo bag people are raving about and I HATED the texture!! So scratchy!
I’m very nosy, and I wanted to share what you guys have been loving. Last week’s most clicked links in the newsletter were the Everlane Tube Top, the Oak + Fort Mockneck, and this post about bloomers.
Weekly reminder that Big Silly Trivia is every Wednesday at 9 PM EST. I did NOT win the camera last week very sadly, but it is still always the best part of my week!
And that’s it! See you Monday for our special Met edition :)
hahah i love this, what a fun read
Thank you Lucy for the sweet mention!!! And I’m eyeing that J.Crew boxer set. So perfect!
